August was a busy month as just a day after Marc and Carolyn's wedding I was off to the Holiday Inn at Camden to photograph Morris's birthday celebrations. It was a lovely summer evening in London and the venue was just by the canal and Camden Lock.
The Holiday Inn is actually a great place for a party. I've been there before for a conference, so was grateful for the knowledge of the layout of the function room which has an amazing view to the canal and lots of natural light flowing in.
The birthday had a fabulous Strictly Come Dancing theme with sparkly details, outfits and latin dancing included! What a dream birthday to photograph visually! Morris's son and daughter surprised everyone before the speech with a great Bruce Forthsythe & Tess Daly number and by giving very heartfelt speeches to congratulate their father as well.
The highlight of the evening was all the dancing I have to say. Morris had hired professional dancers from Salsa Fantastica to perform and give a dance lesson to all the guests after the dinner, and they were amazing. The night wasn't short of surprises either as Morris jumped in himself to perform a few dances as well!
This was a great party and such a joy to photograph as everyone was having such a good time. Thank you so much for booking me and making me part of your great birthday party!

This post about John's retirement do is so overdue that it is embarrasing! In the end of June 2009 we were booked to do this party on the William B boat on the Thames quite short notice. However it was such an exciting opportunity to do something different we jumped at it. As always I was second shooting and assisting Marianne from Marianne Taylor Photography during the evening. And what a fun evening it was!
It was such a nice change be able to photograph this event in the midst of all the weddings we had been shooting by then this summer. Although the party atmosphere was no different and there were many great moments to be captured. It was also nice to take a second cruise on the Thames with the Thames Leisure Cruises as they had recommended Marianne's services to John!
The entertainment was covered by a magician and a fabulous live band during the evening, both of which provided us with great photo opportunities. But as always my favourite part was being able to use the Thames and London itself as a backdrop to some gorgeous photos!
What a great set up, don't you think? I have to say that I have been very lucky and honoured to have been able to assist Marianne during this summer. I've learned so much and enjoyed every wedding and event we have done this far. For more photos and information, please visit Marianne's blog for full reportage of this great retirement party!
In other news - I've now added a new events gallery to the main website to compliment the event photography I have also been doing this summer alongside the weddings. Have a look and let me know what you think!
